Pollitt Signs and Graphics — Harford County
Hand-carved and sandblasted signs in wood, HDU, and stone, fabricated in-house in Havre de Grace since 1947 for historic districts, estates, and town welcome signs. Serving businesses in Aberdeen and Harford County since 1947.
Carved and sandblasted signs are a Pollitt specialty, hand-carved and fabricated entirely in-house at our Havre de Grace shop rather than farmed out to another vendor. We work in high-density urethane (HDU), natural wood, and stone to create deeply dimensional, hand-finished signs — raised carved letters, sandblasted wood-grain backgrounds, and finishing options like gold leaf and hand-painted detail that a flat-printed sign simply can't reproduce. It's the same craft behind projects like the carved Havre de Grace town welcome sign, and it's what we bring to historic district storefronts, estate entrances, HOA and community entrances, and businesses that want a sign built to last for decades. Because carved signs so often go into locations with design review boards — historic districts, town rights-of-way, HOA communities — our in-house permit department handles those applications and variances for you from start to finish.
Aberdeen's commercial growth is driven by Aberdeen Proving Ground — the military installation brings thousands of contractors, employees, and vendors into the local market every year. Businesses along the Route 40 corridor near Ripken Stadium, the Bel Air Road strip, and the retail centers at the Routes 40 and 715 interchange compete for attention on some of Harford County's highest-traffic roads. We've built pylon signs for shopping centers near the APG gates, channel letters for Route 40 retailers, and monument signs for the professional offices serving the defense contractor community. Aberdeen's traffic volumes make sign visibility a direct revenue driver.
All carved & sandblasted signs installations in Aberdeen require sign permits through the Harford County Department of Planning and Zoning. As a Harford County sign company with over seven decades of permitting experience, our dedicated permit department handles the application, setback compliance review, and any variance requests. Harford County routes sign permit applications through its Planning and Zoning office, and most standard applications are reviewed within 2–4 weeks of submission. Illuminated signs and any request that exceeds the standard height, size, or setback limits for the property's zoning district typically require a variance hearing before the county's Board of Appeals. You focus on your business; we handle the paperwork.
Aberdeen's high-speed commuter corridor shapes how we approach carved & sandblasted signs here. Carved and sandblasted signs read better up close than at highway speed, so on a fast corridor we typically pair a carved HDU sign with larger auxiliary signage or reserve the carved piece for a monument base rather than relying on it alone for drive-by visibility.
