Pollitt Signs and Graphics — Harford County
Hand-carved and sandblasted signs in wood, HDU, and stone, fabricated in-house in Havre de Grace since 1947 for historic districts, estates, and town welcome signs. Serving businesses in Havre de Grace and Harford County since 1947.
Carved and sandblasted signs are a Pollitt specialty, hand-carved and fabricated entirely in-house at our Havre de Grace shop rather than farmed out to another vendor. We work in high-density urethane (HDU), natural wood, and stone to create deeply dimensional, hand-finished signs — raised carved letters, sandblasted wood-grain backgrounds, and finishing options like gold leaf and hand-painted detail that a flat-printed sign simply can't reproduce. It's the same craft behind projects like the carved Havre de Grace town welcome sign, and it's what we bring to historic district storefronts, estate entrances, HOA and community entrances, and businesses that want a sign built to last for decades. Because carved signs so often go into locations with design review boards — historic districts, town rights-of-way, HOA communities — our in-house permit department handles those applications and variances for you from start to finish.
Located at 718 Girard St, we're part of this community — we've installed channel letters, monument signs, and LED displays for businesses along Washington Street, the waterfront district near Tydings Memorial Park, and the Route 40 commercial corridor for more than 75 years. Businesses from the Tidewater Grille to retailers near the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum and the Susquehanna Museum at Lock House have relied on Pollitt for signage. The town's mix of waterfront tourism, Main Street retail, and highway commercial traffic means signs must perform in very different environments — we design for all of them, and we know which sign types earn approval in each zone.
All carved & sandblasted signs installations in Havre de Grace require sign permits through the Harford County Department of Planning and Zoning. As a Harford County sign company with over seven decades of permitting experience, our dedicated permit department handles the application, setback compliance review, and any variance requests. Harford County routes sign permit applications through its Planning and Zoning office, and most standard applications are reviewed within 2–4 weeks of submission. Illuminated signs and any request that exceeds the standard height, size, or setback limits for the property's zoning district typically require a variance hearing before the county's Board of Appeals. You focus on your business; we handle the paperwork.
Havre de Grace's waterfront tourism economy shapes how we approach carved & sandblasted signs here. A carved or sandblasted sign fits the tourism aesthetic of a historic waterfront town particularly well, since visitors move at a walking pace and the craftsmanship itself becomes part of the destination's charm — we favor HDU over natural wood here for better resistance to the marine climate.
