Pollitt Signs and Graphics — Cecil County
Hand-carved and sandblasted signs in wood, HDU, and stone, fabricated in-house in Havre de Grace since 1947 for historic districts, estates, and town welcome signs. Serving businesses in North East and Cecil County since 1947.
Carved and sandblasted signs are a Pollitt specialty, hand-carved and fabricated entirely in-house at our Havre de Grace shop rather than farmed out to another vendor. We work in high-density urethane (HDU), natural wood, and stone to create deeply dimensional, hand-finished signs — raised carved letters, sandblasted wood-grain backgrounds, and finishing options like gold leaf and hand-painted detail that a flat-printed sign simply can't reproduce. It's the same craft behind projects like the carved Havre de Grace town welcome sign, and it's what we bring to historic district storefronts, estate entrances, HOA and community entrances, and businesses that want a sign built to last for decades. Because carved signs so often go into locations with design review boards — historic districts, town rights-of-way, HOA communities — our in-house permit department handles those applications and variances for you from start to finish.
North East's economy splits between Route 40 commercial traffic and waterfront tourism along the North East River, the North East Community Park, and Hays Beach. Marinas, waterfront restaurants, antique shops along Main Street, and seasonal businesses serve a tourist-heavy summer population very different from the year-round local market. Signs here must be durable against the marine environment — aluminum construction, UV-resistant finishes, and stainless steel hardware — and tasteful enough to fit North East's reputation as a destination. We understand both the coastal durability requirements and the Cecil County aesthetic standards for this historic waterfront town.
All carved & sandblasted signs installations in North East require sign permits through the Cecil County Department of Land Use and Growth Management. As a Cecil County sign company with over seven decades of permitting experience, our dedicated permit department handles the application, setback compliance review, and any variance requests. Cecil County's Land Use and Growth Management office generally reviews standard sign permit applications within 2–4 weeks. Sign proposals in the county's historic waterfront towns — including Chesapeake City's historic district and downtown Elkton — often go through an added design review step before approval, and any sign exceeding standard height, size, or illumination limits requires a variance. You focus on your business; we handle the paperwork.
North East's waterfront tourism economy shapes how we approach carved & sandblasted signs here. A carved or sandblasted sign fits the tourism aesthetic of a historic waterfront town particularly well, since visitors move at a walking pace and the craftsmanship itself becomes part of the destination's charm — we favor HDU over natural wood here for better resistance to the marine climate.
